Go Texans!

It’s an understatement to say that our household is ready for football season to be in full swing.  Obviously basketball is the “sport of choice” in terms of actually playing a sport but football ranks right up there in terms of watching sports.  From the end of the NBA Playoffs until the NFL Preseason starts its a pretty sad life around here (exaggeration).  Baseball is so slow and when your hometown team isn’t doing so hot it makes it even harder to watch.  So finally, it’s football season which rolls right into basketball season so things are looking up around here.

We found Cason a couple of cute Texan’s onesies at a consignment sale this week.  We watched the Texan’s beat the Cowboys on Saturday night!  Cason enjoyed watching the game with Sophie (the two legged giraffe).

Video Roundup

I’ve finally gone back and added some of the video we’ve taken over the past couple of months.  Since this is a “digital baby book” of sorts, I back dated some of the entries so I’d be able to go back and know better when he was doing these things.

Good Morning – July 11

Loving the Mobile – July 15

Happy Baby – July 28

Trying out the Jumperoo – July 29

Bath Time – August 21

Thumb Sucker – August 23

Rolling… Sort of – August 26

Disclaimer:  I know most of these are very boring and I am being “that” mom who posts video’s of her baby doing pretty much nothing… but to me that nothing is something so amazing!!  Ha.  It’s your choice to watch or not to watch… you have been fairly warned!!!

Rolling… sort of

Cason is really not rolling.  He’ll go from his back to his side but won’t go all the way over.  Tonight, he hung out on his side looking at (and talking to) himself in the mirror for a solid 30 minutes.

Earlier this month he rolled from his tummy to his back a couple of times on the bed.  We really sort of tricked him by propping him up on his elbows and he’d sort of fall over to his side and then work his way to his back.

This video is probably pretty boring to everyone except me and the grandma’s but I loved watching how hard he was working those back muscles.

Now, this trick doesn’t work as he doesn’t lose his balance… he just gets mad that he’s on his tummy and fusses until we help him turn over.

I’ll just keep enjoying the fact that he stays put when I put him down!  :)

Thumb Sucker

I caught this video in late July of Cason “finding” his thumb.

Then about a week ago, I went upstairs to get him out of bed.  I unswaddled him and turned to open the blinds.  I quickly heard a sucking sound and turned back to find this.

IMAG0290 IMAG0291 IMAG0292

He doesn’t do this too often and really doesn’t discriminate between thumb, other fingers, whole hand or the paci.  Especially when he’s hungry or tired.  I’m glad he knows how to sooth himself but I hope he doesn’t get too attached to his thumb.  I know that will be a harder habit to break than the paci since I can’t really take his thumb away!  But regardless, seeing him sucking on that thumb was pretty darn cute.

Cereal … Take 1

We tried the cereal tonight to see how Cason would like it.  I decided to do oatmeal instead of rice because, well, I thought oatmeal sounded better.  Very logical, right?

Before… Cason was way more interested in eating his bib than anything else.

DSC_0090 DSC_0091

And eating… sort of.  He did pretty good.  It was quite the mess but I do think he actually swallowed SOME of it.

DSC_0092 DSC_0093

You could definitely see that he was a little confused as to why he couldn’t just suck on the spoon and it work like a bottle.  And I think that made him a little mad because he realized that there was food but we weren’t feeding it to him fast enough.  He’d make this face between spoonfuls but calm down as soon as the spoon touched his lips.

Bath Time

Cason LOVES bath time.  I’m talking L-O-V-E loves taking baths.  It doesn’t matter how hungry or tired or fussy he is, put him in the tub and he calms right down.  He’s normally full of smiles, coos, kicks and even Elvis faces!

DSC_0049 DSC_0051 DSC_0052 DSC_0055

And a little video.. its what I call an “only a grandma would like this” video.  Cason gets camera shy when I turn on the video camera so this is pretty boring but regardless I know that at least his grandma’s will watch this several times!

18 Weeks

I haven’t been able to keep up with weekly pictures or even every-two-weeks pictures.  Four weeks have gone by since the last picture so you’ll definitely see some change!DSC_0063

This was a quick photoshoot since I got such a cute little smile so fast.  Here are a couple of more where Cason is holding hands with Pooh bear.

DSC_0060 DSC_0061

Cason is enjoying his time in the Bumbo more.  He doesn’t immediately lean his head back and will hold it straight up for a couple of minutes.  His chin will slowly fall to his chest as he gets tired but each day he’s stronger and stronger.DSC_0071

We don’t have a roller yet but we are getting close.  We got him to roll over a couple of time last week by propping him up on his elbows.  Really, he was just falling over most of the time.  I have video of this that I’ll post soon… he’d get half way and work really hard to get all the way to his back.  Now, he’s got enough balance to keep himself steady when we prop him up so there is no rolling from Tummy to Back.

He’s starting to make little attempts to reach for things.  This has lead to half rolls from back to side but he won’t go all the way. DSC_0078DSC_0077  DSC_0080 DSC_0081

And everything involves hands in the mouth.  Not interested in many toys yet, but he loves his hands.

And then all that hard work just wore him out.  Pooh bear is keeping watch over Cason while he sleeps. DSC_0088

4 months old!

Wow.  Cason is 4 months old.  I can’t believe it.  He’s getting so big and is just so much fun.  He smiles and giggles and tells us “stories”.  He has started reaching for toys that make noise on his play gym.  He loves to “stand” but it starting to not like his “tummy time” as much.  I think there is just not enough for him to see when he’s on his tummy.

We went to see Dr. B for his 4 month check up and shots.  He was so happy with Cason’s growth and said he was one of the more social 4 month olds he’s seen!  Yay!  Cason was smiling at him the whole time.  Can’t say as much for the nurse who had to give him his shots!  His stats are:

16 pounds, 9.4 ounces

25 3/4 inches

He’s 75-90% in both categories, as we’d expect with those tall gene’s on Ryan’s side!  Dr. B. said we could start rice cereal this month just to get him used to a spoon.  I’m in no rush since he’s obviously not hurting in the weight department but we’ll probably start giving it a try in the next couple of weeks to get him ready for the good stuff in a couple of months.

DSC_0030 DSC_0032 DSC_0033

He’s not rolling over just yet but he has learned one new trick… sort of!

DSC_0016DSC_0018

We still have to support the weight of the bottle for the most part but he has held it himself for about 10 seconds… could be a total fluke but it was so cute!

Four Generations Part II

Four generations from Mom’s side of the family

Meeting Family

The second half of July was busy for us.  I started back to work on the 12th.  Ryan’s cousin Brad got married in Fort Worth the weekend of July 17th where we saw lots of both sides of Ryan’s family. My Mom’s family came for a mini reunion on July 21st –25th.  Cason got to meet lots of family.  I didn’t do the best job of getting pictures of him with everyone and I’m sad about that.  :(

Here are the shots I did get.
